OTTAWA, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Mar 30, 2016) - Prime Minister's Office
The Prime Minister, Justin Trudeau, issued the following statement today on the death of the Honourable Jean Lapierre:
"I was saddened to learn yesterday of the tragic deaths of the Honourable Jean Lapierre, his wife, members of his family, and the flight crew in a plane crash on the Îles-de-la-Madeleine.
"As a former Member of Parliament, Minister, and media personality, Mr. Lapierre devoted his life to public service. His sudden death will leave a void in the political and media community - in Quebec and in the rest of Canada.
"I was fortunate to meet with Jean on many occasions in the past. Our country will remember him as a skilled politician who was well known and loved by all. The commitment and devotion he demonstrated throughout his career will stay in our memories.
"In these difficult times, we are reminded of just how precious life is. We must live every day to the fullest and seize every moment that is given to us. Sophie and I are devastated by these tragic events, and we extend our sincere condolences to all the victims' families and friends."
