Skype for Business, powered by TELUS, helps Canadian businesses transform how they connect, collaborate and communicate-internally and externally

TORONTO, ONTARIO--(Marketwired - Feb 17, 2016) - This document corrects and replaces the release that was issued today at 8:00 am ET. There was a change made to the fifth paragraph. The revised version follows.

(TSX:T)(NYSE:TU) - TELUS has teamed up with Microsoft and Avanade to offer Skype for Business, powered by TELUS, an enterprise-grade unified communications and collaboration (UCC) solution that enables new ways for employees to connect with colleagues and customers, and helps Canadian businesses better support a mobile workforce.

With the proliferation of wireless devices in the workplace and the growing trend of mobile working - IDC Canada predicts that mobile workers will represent 75.5 per cent of the Canadian workforce by 2018 - businesses are under increasing pressure to provide the technology their employees need to stay connected when and where they are most productive. Skype for Business offers a full suite of communications and collaboration tools that includes voice and video calls, instant messaging, presence and online meetings - all available through a single interface on nearly any device, anytime, anywhere. The solution allows users to collaborate with external partners and customers as well as colleagues.

Skype for Business is the evolution of Microsoft Lync; it brings together the much-loved Skype interface with an expanded Lync feature set that offers seamless integration with commonly used Microsoft Office applications and delivers the performance, security, compliance and control required by organizations today.

"The way we work is changing; employees want the flexibility to connect across locations and devices, while customers want new ways to interact with the companies they do business with," said David Kozicz, Vice President of Product Development & Product Marketing, TELUS Business Solutions. "By implementing Skype for Business, organizations can transform how they work by boosting productivity, enhancing team collaboration and improving customer service, while dramatically reducing telephony and travel costs."

Skype for Business is designed for organizations of all sizes. Today, Skype for Business, powered by TELUS, will focus on connecting organizations with more than 250 employees and is delivered as a fully managed private cloud solution from TELUS' secure and reliable Canadian data centres. To help organizations successfully plan for, pilot and deploy Skype for Business, TELUS offers a full suite of advisory, training and adoption services delivered through the TELUS Transformation Office. In addition, TELUS has partnered with Avanade - a leading global provider of innovative digital business and technology services in the Microsoft ecosystem - to enhance its Skype for Business implementations.

"In today's economic climate, Canadian businesses are under intense pressure to do more with less and maximize the ROI for every technology investment," said Kozicz. "For us, a successful deployment doesn't stop at provisioning the service. We're committed to helping our customers drive adoption and instill a more collaborative culture across their organizations, unlocking the full value of a Skype for Business deployment. "

TELUS is a Microsoft Gold Partner, meeting Microsoft's high technical and sales expertise standards.

"It is great to see businesses like TELUS embrace cloud-based platforms like Skype for Business and help Canadian companies transform the way they operate, connect and communicate in the new digital world," said Janet Kennedy, President, Microsoft Canada. "In a cloud-first, mobile-first world, Skype for Business is critical for enabling businesses to achieve more, as it extends communications beyond the walls of businesses to reach customers and partners, anytime, anywhere in a secure and compliant environment."
