TORONTO, ON  --(Marketwired - March 09, 2016) - As a doctor who worked on the original trials for CoolSculpting®, Toronto cosmetic dermatologist Dr. Nowell Solish is no stranger to how extremes in temperature impact fat cells. He began using the cold-based fat-reduction treatment at his dermatology practice in 2009, and has also used Vanquish® -- a heat-based system -- on patients who want to lose unwanted bulges. In mid-February, 2016, Dr. Solish upgraded his Vanquish® system, making it newly available to all body types.

Both body contouring systems work on the same principle: Dieting and exercise can shrink fat cells, but not eliminate them, leaving them free to grow again if given the opportunity -- and even a patient's best lifestyle-changing efforts to slim down may not be able to get rid of stubborn pockets of diet-resistant fat. The unwanted cells, however, can be precisely targeted and destroyed, never to return again.

CoolSculpting® accomplishes this with cold, by removing heat energy from key areas and lowering the temperature of the problem fat while leaving the surrounding tissues unharmed. Once cold enough, the fat cells die, and are then eliminated from the body. The CoolSculpting® process involves pulling tissue to be treated into the device, then removing heat energy with carefully calibrated precision to ensure safety and natural-looking results.

Vanquish® takes the opposite extreme of the thermometer, by disrupting fat cells with heat. As with CoolSculpting®, these cells die off, and the fat is naturally removed in the weeks and months after the treatment session. This system avoids contact with the skin, making it ideal for patients seeking a truly noninvasive approach.

The heating system can be applied simultaneously on the inner and outer thigh, or from flank to flank, addressing bulges on the abdomen, as well as "love handles" on either side. CoolSculpting® can treat large areas as well, and Dr. Solish also frequently uses it to focus on more isolated pockets of fat.

Neither CoolSculpting® nor Vanquish® is intended to be used as a health treatment to help with weight loss. Though both are quite effective in removing fat, the equipment is designed to facilitate body contouring.

Dr. Solish also offers a variety of cosmetic dermatology services, including BOTOX® for smoothing out wrinkles; dermal fillers for addressing lines, creases, and volume loss; laser hair removal, and more.

Dr. Nowell Solish's cosmetic dermatology practice is at 66 Avenue Road, Suite 1, Toronto, Ontario, M5R 3N8. For more information about Vanquish® or CoolSculpting® in Toronto, as well as other available dermatology treatments, visit solish.com or call (416) 964-8888.
